Cumby athletics welcomed three new coaches in their ranks recently: Charles Boles, head football coach and athletic director; Justin Jones, head boys basketball coach; and Rocio Medrano-Lopez, head girlsbasketball coach.

“I think Coach [Tom] Dracos has done a great job here, and we’re looking forward to building on that and moving forward,” Boles said.

Former head coach Dracos stepped down to take a position as assistant athletic director and assistant head football coach at Cuero ISD in mid-March, according to the Herald-Banner. Boles originally hails from Sulphur Springs and has coached most recently at Miles ISD near San Angelo, according to the San Angelo Standard-Times.

“I’ve been a head coach for 18 years. This is going to be my 19th year being a head football coach,” Boles said. “We’re just excited to be back in the area and be back close to home.”

Boles has coached for 25 years, including positions at Bells High School, Whitewright and various private schools. At Miles ISD, he led the football team to a share of its first district title in 18 years, according to the San Angelo Standard-Times.

Former basketball coaches Shannon and Kendall Williams left for Brownsboro, Shannon Williams’ hometown, according to Boles. Shannon Williams accepted the head volleyball coach and head girls track and field coach, according to the Tyler Morning Telegraph.

Jones was most recently at Royse City ISD, according to Boles, and Medrano-Lopez has coached most recently at Goodrich ISD outside of Houston.
