Playoff format changed in wake of postponed games

Due to multiple teams forced into quarantine in District 8-5A, the district has decided to go to a zone schedule with the top two teams in each zone advancing to the playoffs. The Sulphur Springs Wildcats have been placed into a zone with Corsicana, Greenville and North Forney.

Lady Cats extend winning streak to 5 games Tuesday

LONGVIEW—The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats traveled to Longview Tuesday for their first in a pair of district matches this season. The Lady Cats entered the night on a four-game winning streak, all of which they won by scores of 3-0. The last time they lost a set was Oct. 2.

Lady Panthers pick up senior night win

NORTH HOPKINS— The North Hopkins Lady Panthers hosted Alba-Golden Tuesday for their senior night game. The Lady Panthers entered the game with a 10-11 record, looking to get back to .500 on the season. The two teams faced each other on Oct. 2, when the Lady Panthers won in straight sets.

Boys take 1st, girls 2nd in home meet

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats and Lady Cats golf team participated in the Sulphur Springs High School Fall Invitational Monday at the Sulphur Springs Country Club. The Boys team took first place out of six teams, posting a combined total score of 304.

Eagles cruise to 2nd consecutive win

CELESTE—The Como-Pickton Eagles traveled to Celeste Friday for their fourth district game of the season. The Eagles entered the game with a 2-2 record and a 1-2 record in district play.

The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats hosted Hallsville Friday for their first in a pair of district volleyball matches this season. Sulphur Springs entered the night on a three-game winning streak and with a 5-0 record at home.

Lady Trojans improve to 8-2 in district play

ALBA-GOLDEN—The Cumby Lady Trojans traveled to Alba-Golden Saturday for their second district match against each other this season. Cumby won the first match last Tuesday, 3-0, by scores of 27-25, 25-22 and 25-23.

Sulphur Bluff alum wins collegiate tournament

Sulphur Bluff alum Kaleb Brown hits a chip shot in the East Texas Baptist Fall Classic Tuesday. A junior at Howard Payne University, Brown won his first collegiate tournament, scoring a +3 for the event. Brown led the tournament in par 4 scoring (+3), Par 5 scoring (-2) and had a tournament-high eight birdies.
