CANHelp is collecting gently worn or new coats and blankets to donate the Hopkins County residents who need them to stay warm this winter. The 16th annual Coat & Blanket Drive drop-offs are at the CANHelp offices at 613 Gilmer St. or Starbucks on South Broadway Street and Interstate 30. Meal A Day is in need of two cooks for Thursdays. The current cooks will be ending their volunteering with the program at the end of October. Anyone interested in giving a few hours of time to help the senior shut-ins Meal A Day serves would be appreciated. First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs, 116 Oak Ave., will host Trunk or Treat: A Drive-Thru Experience 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, Halloween night. Participants are asked to enter at the corner of Como and Putman streets and follow signage. Each child will receive a full bag of candy and some extra treats.

A Halloween Glow Run will be held at the North Hopkins Elementary campus Oct. 30 with check-in starting at 6:30 p.m. The event begins at 7:15 p.m. Registration for the 1-mile walk/run costs $25, while the 5K costs $40. Cost includes a t-shirt and glow necklace for anyone registered by Oct. 25, and registration will be available on-site. Register online at bit.ly/3jzF1lg.
