The National Weather Service will be conducting a free, virtual severe weather training class for Hopkins County Tuesday, Jan. 26 from 6-8 p.m. Officially called the SKYWARN Storm Spotter Class, the program will be held in partnership with Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County Emergency Management. Registration for this online class can be found at: www.weather.gov/fwd/skywarnmap . This virtual class is being combined with Delta, Fannin, and Lamar counties.

The Captain David Philips Chapter of National Society Daughters of American Revolution will meet at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 at the Gafford Chapel Methodist Church. Dena Loyd will present the program on “Wreaths Across America”. All members and any guests are cordially invited to attend. CANHelp is collecting gently worn or new coats and blankets to donate the Hopkins County residents who need them to stay warm this winter. The 16th annual Coat & Blanket Drive drop-offs are at the CANHelp offices at 613 Gilmer St. or Starbucks on South Broadway Street and Interstate 30. Meal A Day is in need of two cooks for Thursdays. The current cooks will be ending their volunteering with the program at the end of October. Anyone interested in giving a few hours of time to help the senior shut-ins Meal A Day serves would be appreciated. First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs, 116 Oak Ave., will host Trunk or Treat: A Drive-Thru Experience 6-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, Halloween night. Participants are asked to enter at the corner of Como and Putman streets and follow signage. Each child will receive a full bag of candy and some extra treats.
