A Halloween Glow Run will be held at the North Hopkins Elementary campus Oct. 30 with check-in starting at 6:30 p.m. The event begins at 7:15 p.m. Registration for the 1-mile walk/run costs $25, while the 5K costs $40. Cost includes a t-shirt and glow necklace for anyone registered by Oct. 25, and registration will be available on-site. Register online at bit.ly/3jzF1lg. The Hopkins County Genealogical Society is taking registrations for a virtual speaking event hosted by the Texas State Genealogical Society. The speaker will be Ari Wilkins, a graduate of Louisiana State University, who has been actively researching family history since 1998 and specializes in African-American research. She will be delivering a presentation entitled, “Black and White Southern Families in Southern Plantation Records.” Call HCGS at 903-885-8523 to register.

Operation Victor Echo Tango is hosting “Woods of the Dead” haunted trail at 2779 County Road 2426 in Como every Friday and Saturday from dark to 1 a.m. through Oct. 31. Cost is by donation and concessions will be available for purchase.

The Hopkins-Rains Soil and Water Conservation District #445 will host a barbecue lunch and hay show, starting at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, 1200 Houston St. in Sulphur Springs. The purpose of the hay show is to establish a scholarship fund and support local FFA and 4-H programs. All entry forms must be submitted to the Northeast Texas Farmers Co-op by Monday, Oct. 5.

Lions Club of Cooper will hold a Jail & Bail and Community Pancake Buffet at First United Methodist Church, 200 SW 1st St. in Cooper, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. Tickets are $5 per person per for an all-you-can-eat meal. An online auction will be available at charityauction.bid/jail.bail, Carter BloodCare for blood donations and Mays Health for flu vaccines. The Lions Club will have free vision screening. For the Jail & Bail, area “jailbirds” will be rounded up Oct. 9 and held at the church 11 a.m.-1 p.m. until they raise enough money through donations to make bail. Fire Prevention Week will be observed with services at the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial on the plaza in downtown Sulphur Springs at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4. The Hopkins County Marine Corps League will be officiating the service.
