The Hopkins-Rains Soil and Water Conservation District #445 will host a barbecue lunch and hay show, starting at 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20 at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center, 1200 Houston St. in Sulphur Springs. The purpose of the hay show is to establish a scholarship fund and support local FFA and 4-H programs. All entry forms must be submitted to the Northeast Texas Farmers Co-op by Monday, Oct. 5.

Lions Club of Cooper will hold a Jail & Bail and Community Pancake Buffet at First United Methodist Church, 200 SW 1st St. in Cooper, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9. Tickets are $5 per person per for an all-you-can-eat meal. An online auction will be available at charityauction.bid/jail.bail, Carter BloodCare for blood donations and Mays Health for flu vaccines. The Lions Club will have free vision screening. For the Jail & Bail, area “jailbirds” will be rounded up Oct. 9 and held at the church 11 a.m.-1 p.m. until they raise enough money through donations to make bail. Fire Prevention Week will be observed with services at the Hopkins County Veterans Memorial on the plaza in downtown Sulphur Springs at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 4. The Hopkins County Marine Corps League will be officiating the service.

Flu shots will be available for existing CHRISTUS Trinity Clinic patients in a drive-thru format 2-4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 and Friday, Oct. 2. Bring current insurance information. Drive through the circle drive under the awning, directly in front of the hospital by the main entrance.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Saltillo Community Homecoming committee announced Tuesday to make the decision to cancel the annual Community Homecoming originally scheduled for Oct 11, in order to protect attendees.

The Hopkins County Genealogical Society Fall Genealogy Seminar will be Saturday, Sept. 19 has a few seats available for the in-person presentation, according to the society. Social distancing will be in effect, and masks will be required. Anyone who plans to attend the seminar virtually must sign up by 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17. American Legion Post #66 will host a blood drive 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12 in the Brookshire’s parking lot, 809 Gilmer St. in Sulphur Springs, with Carter BloodCare mobile donation center. COVID-19 antibody testing will be available for all donors. A special thank-you will be provided from McDonald’s.
