A Hopkins County couple was found dead in their home Friday evening, according to HCSO.

Joe Dan and Melinda Edmondson, ages 53 and 49, were found dead from apparent gunshot wounds in their home on Highway 19 at approximately 6:33 p.m. on Friday, according to HCSO personnel.

Family members called for a welfare check after they had not heard from the pair in several days, HCSO said. Judge B.J. Teer, Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 pronounced the couple deceased.

In a statement received Monday afternoon, the Hopkins County Sheriff's Office said they had completed their investigation into the deaths of Melinda and Joe Dan Edmonson. "The sheriff’s office conducted a comprehensive investigation that included an autopsy by  the Dallas County Medical Examiner's Office. The result of that investigation confirmed a murder/suicide had occurred. Evidence shows 54-year-old Joe Dan Edmonson took the life of his wife, 48-year-old Melinda Edmonson, before taking his own. Our prayers are with the family."

Updates will be published as they are available.
