Wildcats lose pair of district contests

SS drops to 2-5 in district

TEXARKANA — The Sulphur Springs Wildcats suffered back-to-back losses during the weekend, falling to the Liberty-Eylau Leopards and Pleasant Grove Hawks. Though the Wildcats fought hard in both games, they couldn’t muster a win, as they were dealt two blemishes to their district record.

For their first game, Friday, March 29, the Wildcats traveled to Texarkana to take on the Liberty- Eylau Leopards. Unfortunately, the Wildcats would come home empty- handed, as the Leopards dealt the Wildcats a

3-1 loss. As a team, the Wildcats batted 4 for 25 (.160) from the plate. Corbin Argenbright came up with two hits, while Alex Macias and Kaden Mitchell added one hit each. Braxton Wall scored the Wildcats’ lone run.

Argenbright suffered the loss on the mound. Over six innings, he gave up eight hits, three earned runs, and two walks, notching three strikeouts.

The following day, Saturday, March 30, the Wildcats welcomed the Pleasant Grove Hawks to Wildcat Park. The Wildcats would suffer another loss, this time losing 7-1.

As a team, the Wildcats batted 4 for 22 (.182) from the plate. Argenbright, Maddux Cameron, Mitchell, and Ty Robinson all recorded one hit each. Argenbright scored the Wildcats’ lone run.

Ty Holt took the loss on the mound. Over 4 2/3 innings, he surrendered six hits, four earned runs, and one walk, notching one strikeout.

Robinson pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief, notching two strikeouts and allowing just two walks and one run. Wall pitched the final inning, conceding three hits and two earned runs, adding a strikeout.

With these losses, the Wildcats are now 2-5 in district and 4-16 overall. They resumed action Tuesday, traveling to Paris to take on the Paris Wildcats.
