FRUITVALE — The Cumby Trojans earned their first district win of the season Tuesday by crushing the Fruitvale Bobcats 19-1 on the road. The game’s outcome would be decided early on, as the Trojans dominated from the beginning and never wavered, leading to blowout win.

The Trojans immediately made their presence felt in the top of the first inning, scoring a trio of runs. Matt Liston, Jace Evans, and Jayden Evans all scored, as the Trojans established a 3-0 lead. The Bobcats would the score a run in the bottom of the first inning, trimming the score to 3-1.

Following a scoreless second inning, the Trojans added four runs in the third inning. Liston, Jace Evans, Jayden Evans, and Channing Herman all scored, as the Cumby extended their lead to 7-1.

In the fourth inning, the Trojans went on a tear, scoring 12 runs. Liston, Jayden Evans, Herman, and Hunter McPherson scored two runs each, while Jaxon Hudson, Lane McCraw, Montgomery Benton, Chayton Vaughan scored one run a piece, raising the score to 19-1. After the Bobcats were held scoreless in the bottom of the fourth inning, the game ended, as the Trojans capped off a dominant 19-1 win.

As a team, the Trojans batted 10 for 20 (.500) from the plate. Herman would bat a perfect 3/3, and Jace Evans added three hits as well. Jayden Evans and Liston added two hits each.

Liston finished as the leading scorer with four runs. Right behind were Jace Evans, Jayden Evans, and Herman with three runs each.

McPherson scored two runs, while Benton, Hudson, McCraw, and Vaughan added one run a piece.

Hudson earned the victory on the mound. Across three innings, he struck out six batters, allowing only two hits and one earned run. Jayden Evans pitched the last inning in relief, tallying two strikeouts.

With the win, the Trojans improved to 1-6 in district and 7-11 overall. They resumed action Friday, taking on the Bobcats again, this time at Ben K. Green Memorial Park for their Senior Night game.
