Johnson places sixth in 400-meter dash
SPRINGTOWN — The 2A Region II track and field meet was held at Porcupine Stadium on the campus of Springtown High School this past weekend. Three Hopkins County schools — Como-Pickton, Cumby, and North Hopkins — would all represent their schools well at the meet.
COMO-PICKTON
The Como-Pickton Eagles and Lady Eagles were represented by 12 athletes.
On the boys side, Sean Carpenter placed 12th in the discus throw with a distance of 121 feet, nine inches.
Cade Childress placed 13th in the both the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:00, and in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:09.
On the girls side, Aubrey Martinez placed 12th in the pole vault with a height of five feet. Raeleigh Sproles placed 13th in the high jump with a height of four feet, eight inches.
Saylor Smith placed 14th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.08 seconds. Shyann Wetzel placed 14th in both the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.93 seconds, and in the triple jump with a distance of 30 feet, 5.5 inches.
The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Journey Brumley, Smith, Sadie Wetzel, and Shyann Wetzel placed 14th with a time of 1:54.
The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Faith Gilbreath, Brooklyn Icenhower, Smith, and Sadie Wetzel placed 15th with a time of 53.60 seconds.
Brittney Quinonez placed 15th in the discus throw with a distance of 57 feet, six inches. Janey Stokley placed 16th in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:53.
CUMBY
The Cumby Trojans and Lady Trojans had 10 representatives at the Regional meet.
On the boys side, Dakari Johnson placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.01 seconds.
Chett Vaughan placed 10th in the triple jump with a distance of 41 feet, half an inch. Vaughan also placed 12th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:13.
The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Braylon Boggs, Gunner Campbell, Jace Evans, and Channing Herman placed 14th with a time of 1:37.
The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Evans, Herman, Johnson, and Vaughan placed 15th with a time of 3:46.
Boggs placed 15th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.91 seconds.
On the girls side, Gaby Osornio placed 14th in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:43. Lilly Campbell placed 15th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:40. Chloe Groves placed 15th in the triple jump with a distance of 30 feet, one inch.
The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Campbell, Groves, Selina Hammel, and Osornio placed 15th with a time of 4:34.
NORTH HOPKINS
Ashley Shipman represented North Hopkins at the Regional Track and Field meet. She placed 16th in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 14:47.
