CUMBY—The Cumby Lady Trojans hosted Fruitvale Tuesday for their final non-district match of the season.

Sophomore Ashlyn Hudson got the game started, scoring the first three points of the game, two of which came on kills, the other came on a block. Fellow sophomore Neely Hammond followed her a few possessions later, scoring back-to-back points on kills, giving her team a 6-3 lead.

The Lady Trojans went on a strong run, pushing their lead to 15-5, when Heather McCraw scored three consecutive points on kills, forcing Fruitvale to use a timeout. Cumby finished out the set strong, taking it to 25-12.

Hammond set the tone early in the second half for the Lady Trojans, tallying three quick kills in the opening possessions, the last of which put her team up, 7-5. From there, Cumby went on a 13-3 run, capped off by a pair of aces from senior Rylee Krotky to take a 20-8 lead. The Lady Trojans would score five consecutive points to put the set away, 25-8.

Cumby opened the third set with a close lead but gained a lot of momentum when Krotky made a great dig to keep a play alive, leading to a point from sophomore Erin Morgan. McCraw scored via a kill on the next possession, and Fruitvale used their first timeout with the Lady Trojans leading, 11-5.

McCraw continued to shine throughout the rest of the set, racking up points on kills, blocks and an ace. The final point of the night came from an ace by Morgan, to give her team the 25-14 win in the set and the 3-0 win for the match.

The Lady Trojans have just two more regular season home games, one Tuesday, Oct. 13 against Alba-Golden and their senior night Friday, Oct. 23 against North Hopkins. In both of those games the junior varsity will begin at 4:30 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
