Talley grabs pair of wins

The Cumby Lady Trojans went 4-0 this weekend, taking down Bland, Savoy, Detroit and Sulphur Springs JV.

BLAND

The Lady Trojans walked away with a blowout win over Bland Friday, beating them 9-3. Cumby got on the board first, when Neely Hammond grounded out to bring in a run. Hammond also got the win for the Lady Trojans, allowing just three runs on five hits in her complete game. She struck out 14 batters along the way.

Bre Morgan, Savannah Kurn and Hammond all had multi-hit games, with Kurn and Morgan finishing with three hits each. Morgan also finished with three stolen bases as the Lady Trojans went on to steal 11 bases total in the game.

SAVOY

Carly Talley got the shutout win in this one, as the Lady Trojans defeated Savoy 15-0. Talley went 3.2 innings pitched, while allowing just one hit and striking out 10. Hammond led the way offensively, going 3 for 3 at the plate, with a pair of singles and a double. Hammond also drove in five runs.

Cumby collected 13 hits in the game, with Hammond, Talley and Azlyn Hornsby each having three hits a piece.

SULPHUR SPRINGS JV

The Lady Trojans rallied back from an early 3-run inning to beat the Sulphur Springs JV team 7-4. Talley started for Cumby again, going four innings, and allowed four runs on 10 hits while striking out two. Morgan, Kurn and Talley each had a pair of hits in the game. The Lady Trojans played solid on the defensive side, not allowing a single error in the game.

DETROIT

The Lady Trojans defeated Detroit 13-8 in their highest scoring affair of the weekend. Hornsby got the start for Cumby. She went five innings, allowing eight runs on tens hits. She struck out four.

Morgan got the offense started when she drew a walk in the first inning which brought in a run. Talley went deep in the game, hitting a homer in the third inning. The Lady Trojans tallied 18 hits in the game. Hornsby had the hot hand at the plate, going 4-4. Hammond, Talley, Kurn and Ashlyn Hudson each had multi-hit games as well.

The Lady Trojans had to postpone a game this week against Campbell. The game was originally scheduled for Monday, March 9 and has been moved to Friday, March 27. Cumby will resume play next week, when they’ll take on Celeste on the road Tuesday, March 17. They will also travel to Wolfe City Friday, March 20.
