COMO-PICKTON— The Como-Pickton Lady Eagles hosted the Christian Home Educators of Sulphur Springs Lady Knights Tuesday. The Lady Eagles entered the match with a record of 1-5.

Como-Pickton took the first points in the opening set of Tuesday night’s matchup. Things stayed close between the two teams until CHESS started to pull away with the score 18-12.

Como-Pickton used a pair of timeouts while trailing 18-12 and then again when trailing 22- 12. The two teams traded points back and forth until the end of the set, at which point CHESS won, 25-15, when the Lady Eagles served the ball into the net.

Como-Pickton set the tone to begin the second set, scoring the first four points. They continued to dominate when CHESS used their first timeout with the Lady Eagles leading 15-6. Como-Pickton scored three consecutive points out of the timeout to give themselves their largest lead in the set, at 18-6.

CHESS picked things up in the remainder of the set but were never able to pull the score any closer than eight points. Como-Pickton won the set, 25-17, when CHESS served a ball out of bounds.

The third set started off very tightly contested, with Como-Pickton taking their first lead of the game at 7-6. The Lady Eagles scored the next point as well, making it 8-6 before CHESS went on an 11-5 run, forcing Como-Pickton coach Jordan Cruz to call a timeout with the team trailing, 17-13.

The Lady Eagles immediately scored out of the timeout, blocking a return from CHESS, but that didn’t slow the CHESS offense down. They were able to build their lead to as much as 22-16. Como-Pickton scored a few late points but lost the set, 25-20.

Like the third set, the fourth started off very tightly contested as well. Como-Pickton took their first lead in the set at 7-6 on a long volley that CHESS ultimately wasn’t able to return. The teams traded points for the remainder of the set, and the Lady Eagles’ biggest lead came when they were up 20-17.

CHESS scored three consecutive points to tie the game at 20-20 when Como-Pickton called a timeout to try to regroup. CHESS scored three more straight points out of the timeout, and the Lady Eagles called another timeout, trailing 23-20. CHESS scored the final two points to take the set, 25-20, and to win the game, 3-1.
