COMO-PICKTON— The Como-Pickton Eagles fell short Friday night at home against Rivercrest, losing 28-12 in the district opener. This was the Eagles first game back after missing two weeks of action.

After a first quarter that saw both teams able to drive down the field but never get to the end zone, Rivercrest got on the board first in the opening seconds of the second quarter.

The Eagles answered right back, scoring on the first play of the drive when Braden Miller found Jackson Monk for a 44- yard touchdown pass. Como-Pickton failed to score on the 2-point conversion, making the score 7-6 with 11:34 left in the first half.

In the closing minutes of the half, Rivercrest put together a drive, starting on their own 22-yard line, marching their way up the field. After picking up a first down on fourth and five, Rivercrest went on to find the end zone, taking a 14-6 lead with 1:06 remaining in the second quarter.

The Eagles didn’t have time to get a drive of their own going, and went into the locker room trailing by eight.

Rivercrest added to their lead midway through the third quarter, making the score 21-6 with 6:46 to play.

After a pair of drives that stalled out, Como-Pickton started their drive on the Rivercrest 34 yard-line. Picking up a pair of first downs, the Eagles found the end zone for the second time but once again failed on the 2-point conversion, making the score 21-12 with 35 seconds left in the third quarter.

Rivercrest would score one more time with 8:17 left to play, bringing the game to its final score, 28-12.

Miller led the way offensively for the Eagles, finishing with two catches for 51 yards, as well as his receiving touchdown that came in the second quarter. He also had a big night defensively, finishing with 14 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Monk also had a huge game defensively, leading the Eagles with 15 tackles, one of which resulted in a loss of yards.

The Eagles will look to get back into the win column this Friday, when they travel to Honey Grove to take on the Warriors who are 2-2. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
