FRUITVALE — The Miller Grove boys and girls varsity teams traveled to Fruitvale Tuesday night, and both walked away with wins.

The Varsity boys team got a big 65-18 win. Three Hornets finished in double-digits with Kobe Robertson leading the way, finishing with 16 points. Lexton Sly had 13 and Matt Brignon 11. Other scorers for Miller Grove were Isaiah Billingsley with 8, Riley Hasten 7, Tanner Hensley 6 and Jacob George 4.

The Varsity girls started the game off a bit slow, trailing 9-5 at the end of the first quarter. They found their offense in the second and third quarters, however, outscoring Fruitvale 14-5 then 16-12, giving them a 35-26 entering the fourth.

Despite a strong fourth quarter from Fruitvale, the Lady Hornets were able to hold them off, getting the close 42-39 win.

Harli Watson and Jorja Bessonett led the way for the Lady Hornets with Watson scoring 17 points while shooting 6-8 from the free throw line, and Bessonett scoring 16. Other scorers for the Lady Hornets were Lainy Burnett 4, Summer Coker 2, Kaley Dorantes 2 and Lauren Bullard 1.

The wins make the Varsity boys 4-0 in district and the Varsity girls 5-2. The results of Friday night’s games will be covered in The edition of the News-Telegram.

Miller Grove plays again Tuesday, Jan. 28 at home against Yantis. The JV Boys start at 5 p.m. with the Varsity girls and Varsity boys to follow.
