New voices page

In today’s paper you might notice the page that you’re reading is our new VOICES page. We created this page to allow our readers a place where they can read opinions from all walks of life, young, old, rich, poor, etc. One thing that is new and beginning today is “Voices of our Next Generation.” In this weekly column, you’ll be able to read what is happening with our Hopkins County youth, straight from them.

I have invited schools here in Hopkins County to participate in this weekly column, allowing their students to write about what is happening in their lives, their schools, etc. If you don’t see your school represented here, then they most likely declined to participate. I want to thank the schools who have already begun to send in columns written by their students.

I encourage local Hopkins County residents to send in Letters to the Editor or volunteer to write a guest column. We live in a world now where people create fake names and go online and spew out the most vile and ignorant opinions. Don’t you miss the days when someone actually had the courage and conviction to write down their opinion and put their name and city at the bottom of it? It used to make for some great debates, instead of hostile back and forth comments on Facebook.

We have a youth column that will run weekly. How about a Senior column, talking about your daily lives, struggles, achievements, etc. There are so many different types of people in our County and it would be wonderful to have you share your experiences with everyone. We hope you enjoy this page every Saturday and we will do our utmost to bring you entertaining, intelligent and maybe even fascinating information each week.
