Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and fire department activity from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Monday included:

POLICE

Friday

9:04 p.m.: Police arrested a 40-year-old Sulphur Springs man on two counts of driving while license invalid. According to reports, Officer Murphy conducted a routine traffic stop at 1100 Broadway Street south and found the man had multiple warrants for his arrest. The man was transported to HCSO without incident, the report said, and at time of publication, he had been released from jail.

Saturday

1:30 a.m.: A 28-year-old Gilmer man was arrested for violation of parole for possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram on a warrant out of Wood County. Officer Norris of Sulphur Springs Police made contact with the man at the Royal Inn in reference to a disturbance, according to reports. When the man refused to identify himself, Officer Norris gained his information from a female at the location, the report read. After running the man through the communication system, police confirmed his warrant and transported him to HCSO without incident, the report read. He remains there at press time.

 

SHERIFF

Friday

12:30 p.m.: A 27-year old Sulphur Springs man was arrested at the Parker County Sheriff’s Office for warrants for felony bail jumping and failure to appear, according to reports, and was transported to HCSO where he remains.

1:50 p.m.: A 58-year old Sulphur Springs man was arrested at the Hutchins State Jail for warrants for felony theft of property less than $2,500 with previous convictions, according to reports, and was transported to HCSO where he remains.

5:18 p.m. A 31-year-old Mesquite woman was arrested for possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces, and possession of a Schedule Two controlled substance between 1 and 4 grams on Interstate 30 eastbound at the 115 mile marker. According to reports, the woman was a passenger in a vehicle and pulled over for speeding. When DPS Trooper Saathoff pulled the vehicle over, he could allegedly smell the odor of marijuana, the report said. The driver of the vehicle advised he did not have marijuana, but that his passenger might, according to the report. A search of the vehicle allegedly located a bag of marijuana in the center console, as well as a marijuana grinder, and an e-cigarette containing a THC-like substance in the arrested woman’s purse. At time of publication, the arrested woman had been released from jail.

Saturday

12:47 a.m.: A caller reported a vehicle was shooting fireworks from a car into people’s yards near FM 3105. Deputy Burdick contacted the suspect for engaging in criminal mischief/ vandalism.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 716 non-emergency phone calls, 164 calls for service and 79 emergency calls. Officers issued one citation and filed five offenses. Twenty-one people were booked into and 36 people released from county jail, which held 157 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Monday.
