Eagles to take on Alvord in opening round

The Como-Pickton Eagles will travel to Anna High School Friday for their bi-district playoff match against the Alvord Bulldogs.

Both the Eagles and Bulldogs have had strong seasons to this point, with the teams finishing with a combined 7-4 in district play.

The Como-Pickton Eagles finished their regular season with a 4-3 record and a 3-3 district record. The Eagles finished in third place in their district behind only Cooper and Rivercrest. Como-Pickotn opened their season with a 17-0 win over Simms Bowie, before losing their first two district games of the season.

Since then, the Eagles have won three of their last four games, two of which were by double-digits. Como-Pickton beat Wolfe City 20-7 and Celeste 17-7 before losing to the district champion Cooper Bulldogs. The Eagles wrapped their season up with a 9-8 win over Alba-Golden to secure their playoff spot.

The Alvord Bulldogs, who finished second in their district, have had a strong run as well, winning four of their last five games. Alvord beat Tom Bean 50-34, Collinsville 23-20, Trenton 27-8 and Tioga 41-7. Their one district loss came to No. 9 ranked Lindsay.

Como-Pickton enters the game currently ranked No. 25 in the state according to Harris Ratings Weekly. Despite their impressive resume, Alvord comes in ranked No. 54.

Whoever wins the bi-distrct match between Como-Pickton and Alvord will have the winner of Italy and Rio Vista waiting for them. Italy finished the season with an 8-1 record, and went 5-0 in district play, finishing the season ranked No. 30 in the state. Rio Vista went 7-3 and is ranked No. 50.
