Lady Cats extend winning streak to 9 games Tuesday

LONGVIEW- The Sulphur Springs Lady Cats traveled to Longview with a lot of momentum, riding an eight-game winning streak. It was a rematch of their Oct. 9 district battle in which the Lady Cats won 3-0.

Sulphur Springs got off to a red-hot start, taking the opening set 25-8. Pine Tree made things tougher in each of the next two sets, but the Lady Cats were able to take both of them, by scores of 25-16 and 25-22.

Junior Peyton Hammack set the tone for the Lady Cats, posting 22 assists and eight digs. Hammack also had three blocks, three kills and three aces.

Leading the way offensively for Sulphur Springs were senior Sadie Washburn and junior Brooklynn Burnside. Washburn had 15 kills, seven digs, three blocks and an ace for the Lady Cats, while Burnside had 11 kills, five blocks and two aces.

The defensive leader for Sulphur Springs was Parris Pickett. Pickett had 11 digs, a pair of assists and an ace. Laney Hurst also played a big role defensively, providing seven digs, while also racking up a game-high five aces.

Bre’Asia Ivery and Kaslyn Hurley each had strong performances in the 3-0 win. Ivery had a total of four digs and Hurley had four blocks and three kills.

Other contributor for the Lady Cats were Nylah Lindley; two digs and one kill, Addisyn Wall; two kills, Landry Speer; two digs and Caroline Hurley, who had one block.

The three-set sweep extends the Lady Cats winning streak to nine games, keeping them atop the district standings.

On top of winning their past nine games, Sulphur Springs has now won their last four games, each by scores of 3-0.

The Lady Cats have two games remaining in their regular season, they host Longview on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Mount Pleasant on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Each of those matches are varsity-only.
