Cooper resident Robert West is running for congress, according to a press release.

West is seeking to replace Congressman John Ratcliffe on the November ballot. Ratcliffe was confirmed as national security director on May 21, 2020 after his name was already on the ballot. By Texas law, the County and precinct chairs must choose a replacement.

West currently serves in the Delta County Republican committee and is a strong advocate for the Second Amendment, term limits, is pro-life and fiscally conservative, according to the release.

As a third generation Texas Veteran he’s traveled the world working on aircraft electronics for 30 years, the release said.

“I look at complex problems, find the best way to fix them and head back to Texas," West said. “People say they want term-limits? Prove it. I will not serve more than three terms and will seek no other office.”

West said he would like to join the district's  collection of citizen-legislators, "State Representative Reggie Smith, State Senator Bob Hall and of course President Donald Trump all of whom seem to be accomplishing more than professional politicians."

West was born in Corpus Christi and now lives on 28 acres in Delta County near Cooper. While living in Colorado he and his wife founded the Arapahoe County Tea Party. He served in Iraq fixing aircraft as a civilian contractor, according to his website.

West will face off against city of Atlanta, Texas Mayor Travis Ransom.
