Boys, girls win big in homecoming games against Union Hill

SULPHUR BLUFF — The Sulphur Bluff Varsity boys and girls each hosted Union Hill Friday night for their homecoming games with both teams walking away with big wins.

VARSITY BOYS

The Varsity boys game started with Sulphur Bluff in control, outscoring Union Hill 13-3 in the opening quarter. The Bears had their highest scoring quarter of the night in the second, when they posted 27 points and held Union Hill to just 19 to lead 40-22 at the half.

This was the closest the game would get, as Sulphur Bluff had 29 second-half points and held Union Hill to just 25, getting the win 69-47.

Montana Hurley had a huge game, finishing with 30 points. Trayton South and Shane Johnson each had 15, Dewitt Brookins 7 and Ryan Vance 2.

VARSITY GIRLS

The Varsity Girls dominated from the opening tip, shutting Union Hill out entirely in the first quarter while posting 21 points of their own. In the second quarter the Lady Bears widened the gap even further, adding another 23 points while just allowing 4 to take a 44-4 lead at halftime.

The Lady Bears had their lowest scoring quarter of the game in the third but still managed to score 20 points while not allowing Union Hill to score a single point. Sulphur Bluff outscored Union Hill 21-3 in the fourth quarter, making the final score 85-7.

Skylar Stanley had an impressive performance, finishing with 33 points and 19 rebounds, both of which were game-highs. Jada White had yet another strong defensive game, as she had eight steals and three rebounds to go along with her 13 points. Dalena di Donato, Angel Brown and Tori Raine each had 10 points, with Brown dishing out nine assists and di Donato pulling in eight rebounds. Other scorers for the Lady Bears were Bailey Neal, who had 7 points, four steals and two rebounds, and Molly Kelley who had 2 points, a pair of steals and one assist.

Sulphur Bluff will play again Friday Jan. 24 at home against Avinger. The Varsity girls will start at 5:30 p.m. and the Varsity boys will follow.
