The Special Crimes Unit of Sulphur Springs Police arrested a man on charges of possession of several drugs after a foot chase this afternoon, according to a release.

At approximately 1:52 p.m. on Wednesday, SCU Investigators were performing surveillance on Adam Joshua Hodges, 32, of Yantis, when they observed him driving down College Street, according to a release. They attempted to Hodges over for a traffic stop, police said, but Hodges did not stop and continued on to Morris drive.

At that time Hodges allegedly bailed out of the vehicle and took off running through a yard, reports said. SCU Investigators and Officer Sean Hoffman pursued, following Hodges over two fences before catching him behind a residence at approximately 205 Morris Street, according to reports.

A search of Hodges vehicle allegedly produced 4.85 pounds of marijuana, approximately 18 grams of suspected methamphetamine, approximately 1.38 grams of suspected black tar heroin, and 4.54 grams of suspected hydrocodone tablets.

Hodges was previously wanted for a warrant by SCU on charges of possession of a schedule one controlled substance between four and 200 grams, a first degree felony, according to records.

Hodges was booked in on new charges including possession of a schedule one controlled substance from four to 200 grams with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana from four ounces to five pounds and evading arrest with previous convictions. Hodges is not currently bond eligible, according to records.
