Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement and fire department activity from 5:30 a.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Wednesday included:

POLICE

Tuesday

3:27 p.m.: A 52-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was arrested at the Sulphur Springs Walmart on a charge of theft of property $100-$750. Officers were reportedly advised upon arrival that the woman was observed stealing items and concealing them in her purse and on her person. She was reportedly contacted by loss prevention employees after passing the last point of sale. The woman was issued a criminal trespass warning and transported to the Hopkins County jail. Bond was set at $1,000, and she remained in custody as of press time Wednesday, according to arrest and jail reports.

Monday

2:54 p.m.: Deputies received a report of suspicious activity on County Road 4616 in Tira. A caller reported a large truck was stacking hay bales near the road.

3:15 p.m.: Clifford William Morris, 53, of Mineola was arrested at the Wood County jail on a charge of driving while intoxicated third or more offense and transported to the Hopkins County jail. Bond was set at $100,000, and Morris remained in custody as of press time Wednesday, according to reports. 8:15 p.m.: Brayden Lynn Brown, 17, of Sulphur Springs turned himself in at the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office on a bond forfeiture warrant on a March 2019 charge of evading arrest or detention. Bond was set at $5,000, and Brown was released Tuesday, according to reports.

Tuesday

12:50 a.m.: Jeremy Edward Johnson, 35, of Greenville turned himself in at the Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office on a warrant for an October charge of theft of property $30,000-$150,000. Bond was set at $30,000, and Johnson was released later that day, according to reports.

2:21 a.m.: Enrique Ortiz Montoya, 46, of Como was transferred to the Hopkins County jail on a warrant for bail jumping and failure to appear. Deputies were contacted by Winnsboro PD advising they had Ortiz-Montoya in custody on the warrant. Bond was set at $5,000, and he remained in custody as of press time Wednesday, according reports.

11:33 a.m.: Deputies were contacted regarding a child custody matter. The male caller said his wife wants to keep the children here in Texas.

1:43 p.m.: A man contacted deputies regarding a male subject sending his child inappropriate messages.

8:45 p.m.: Deputies received a report of a suspicious vehicle on County Road 1169 south. A woman advised a vehicle had been parked at the dead end of the county road for about 20 minutes.

9:40 p.m.: Deputies received a report of a disturbance at a residence on State Highway 11 east in Winnsboro. A man reported his wife was throwing his stuff out of the residence.

Hopkins County communications operators answered 539 non-emergency phone calls, 93 calls for service and 86 emergency calls. For the period from 5:30 a.m. Monday to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, officers filed one offense, issued four citations and conducted one inmate transfer between facilities, one funeral escort, eight special patrols and 32 traffic stops. Sixteen people were booked into and nine released from county jail, which held 137 inmates at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
