This Saturday is one that will be filled with holiday cheer, celebration and plenty of gift shopping at The Christmas Market on Main Street in downtown Sulphur Springs. The entire block will be cordoned off for pedestrian traffic only to browse the 26 vendors plus the local shops and restaurants that will be open for the holiday event.

Marlene DeYong, owner of Marlene’s Sass & Class, and Katie Moss Steelman, owner of Simply Spoiled, both on Main Street, have organized the event to encourage area residents to shop local to support the city’s small businesses that still do their business the old-fashioned way with face-to-face customer service.

The market will host plenty of clothing, craft, decor, food and gift vendors whose wares will include jewelry, essential oils, home items, CBD oil, signs, Christmas ornaments, soaps, pillows, toys, and handmade toys, wearable art and other crafts.

Included in this free-to-attend event, DeYong said, will be pictures with Santa from Rocki Hoops with Rockstarr&Co Photography. For a $20 cash donation, parents can have their children’s professional photo taken with Santa.

“Rocky … doesn’t charge us,” DeYong explained. “She donates it … to a local cause or charity. We were able to donate to two families in need last Christmas.”

The Christmas Market on Main Street will take place 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7. Photos with Santa will be set up 1-3 p.m. during the event.

Throughout the day, attendees can purchase raffle tickets at $1 each for a gift basket. The drawing will take place at 4 p.m. and will be livestreamed on the Market’s Facebook page at sschristmasmarket.

Visitors to the webpage can also keep up with postings of vendors that will be set up and items that will be available at the Market.

The weather looks to be perfect for outdoor shopping in the Market on Saturday. The National

Weather Service predicts mostly sunny skies with a

high around 62.
