Judge: Como VFD may see more charges

There may be more arrests regarding the Como Volunteer Fire Department, according to Hopkins County Judge Robert Newsom.

Judge Newsom further stated that the Como city council is looking forward to re-opening applications for the VFD to bring in enthusiastic and qualified volunteers.

Como Fire Chief Darren Harris and former Como Fire Chief Roy Darby were arrested Saturday, Aug. 17 on charges of theft of property.

Harris, 53, is charged with theft of property between $2,500 and $30,000. Darby, 78, is charged with theft between $1,500 and $20,000, according to Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office records.

According to a HSCO press release, the Como VFD Station has been temporarily taken out of service until further notice, pending investigation.

All calls for service will be answered by the Hopkins County Fire Department and other neighboring volunteer fire departments.
