The Tira City Council met on Thursday, Sept. 12 at the Tira Community Center for their quarterly meeting. The group voted to cancel the council election for Nov. 5, since Mayor Allen Joslin and council members Joyce Dodd and Janie Lewis were unopposed.
Janie Lewis gave an update on the recent repairs at the center. Joyce Dodd shared that the Tira Food Pantry is running low.
The quarterly financial report was presented by Jan Vaughn, Tira city secretary.
Joslin gave a report on the Tira Volunteer Fire Department activities and finances.
The Community Christmas Party is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 14. Please mark you calendars.
The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 2.
Since the meeting, Dodd reported that some donations have come in for the pantry. We want to express our appreciation for the contributions. If you would like information about helping with the cause, you can contact any council member or me.
Kim and Lee Beck traveled to see friends, Mike and Melanie Newton, at their ranch in Lipan, Texas over the weekend.
“Mike was on Season 8 of Master Chef and they hosted a BBQ and dove hunt, so you know it was delicious fun,” Kim Beck said.
“Michael and I were able to get out of town with some friends last week. It was a blast! We flew into Denver, met our friends Mike and Margaret Stahl, spent the night with them in Castle Rock. Colorado, then drive down to Red River, New Mexico to meet our other Peerless friends from Sulphur Springs who drove up (the Harrys and the Dicuses). The weather was awesome…Michael didn’t want to leave…but the friendship and time spent together was the very best thing! We marveled at God’s creation each day from across the valley river bed to the mountain top views. I ate way too much and laughed more! Thanks to our friends for making the journey with us and for the Stahl’s for having their crazy Texas Peerless Rednecks for a visit,” Shelia Boyd said.
The North Hopkins School Alumni Homecoming is coming up at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. A tour of the campus is scheduled, so that attendees can see the progress and changes that are being made to enhance the education of the students. A catered barbecue meal will be served. There will be a slide show honoring the classes of 1969, 1979 and 1989, for their 50-, 40- and 30-year reunions. Door prizes will be given. A dance is planned for 7-9 p.m. All former students, teachers and their guests are invited. Please help spread the word.
Our great-grandsons, Rylan, Brailon and Slaiden Joslin, spent the night with us on Friday, and then, on Saturday, we all went to Hot Springs, Arkansas to watch our granddaughter, Jaidyn Joslin, play volleyball for the Rising Rams of Lakeside Middle School. She had a great game!
Her dad, Malcolm Joslin, had driven up for the day, too.
After the game, the kids played on the playground for a while, and then we went to Jose’s Mexican Restaurant for lunch.
Our daughter, Tiffany, had to work at the volleyball games until 2 p.m. We picked her up and went to the Alligator Farm and Petting Zoo after she finished. Everyone had a great time, in spite of the heat.
