Darla Reed’s candidacy for Sulphur Springs ISD Board of Trustees has been announced.

Reed said her purpose in seeking one of the two at-large seats on the May 6 ballot is to advocate for teachers, and provide for the needs of current and future students.

She has a 40-year history with SSISD. Reed was born and raised in Sulphur Springs, and has lived in the district for 40 years.

Reed noted that she served as a teacher’s aide for SSISD while attending college; she earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&M-Commerce in Interdisciplinary Studies, with teaching certificates for Early Childhood through fourth grade and Special Education-Early Childhood through 12th grade.

“I taught at Como-Pickton ISD for four years, then, returned to SSISD, where I taught Special Education for six years,” Reed noted Darla and her husband of 19 years, Scotty Reed, have two children who currently attend SSISD: Jackson, a freshman at Sulphur Springs High School, and Marley, a fifth grader at Sulphur Springs Elementary.“ As a former SSISD teacher, I want to advocate for the current and future teachers of this district. My purpose is to listen to the teachers’ needs and help to maintain and attract good, quality candidates for our students from year to year. I want to be the bridge that connects the teacher’s voices to the school board,” Reed said. “As a parent, I want to provide quality opportunities for all students at SSISD. I want to see my children have the best educational experience that SSISD can offer.

“As a citizen of Sulphur Springs, I want to recognize the growth coming to our community and help provide the appropriate needs and space for the future. If elected, I plan to listen to the teachers, parents and citizens of Sulphur Springs and help in any way possible,” Reed concluded.
