State testing means county unsure as to how many tests outstanding

Body

Hopkins County confirmed two additional cases of COVID-19 over the Memorial Day weekend, bringing the county’s cumulative total cases to 17 since the pandemic outbreak in early March.

Six individuals confirmed with COVID-19 cases have since recovered, therefore, 11 coronavirus cases are currently active, according to Hopkins County emergency management.

The two new cases confirmed over the weekend are two family house members of an earlier confirmed case, according to County Judge Robert Newsom. The three cases are isolating at home together, but no other information was available regarding the cases.

Hopkins County is unsure at this time how many coronavirus tests are pending, as large-scale testing by state agencies in care homes and plant-based employment occurred last week on Thursday and Friday. The county will be notified of these results in the coming week, according to emergency management, but may not be privy to the number of total tests performed.

During the previous week, the Northeast Texas area, defined as counties within 100 linear miles of Hopkins County, surpassed 10,000 cumulative cases of confirmed COVID-19 since the pandemic outbreak in early March.
