The second of two public hearings on the proposed county tax rate for 2019-2020 is on the top of the Hopkins County Commissions Court special session Tuesday, which will remain the same at 62.4892 cents per $100, will be held Tuesday. The commissioners expect to formally adopt the budget in a vote at their regular session on Sept. 23. The budget will go into effect Oct. 1.

Commissioners will also review the annual inspection report by the Sulphur Springs Fire Department.

The Court will acknowledge Senator Bob Hall’s resolution describing the need for swift, aggressive action to combat the “severe and persistent problem” of flooding on the border of Hopkins and Delta Counties.

The heavy rains the area has received over the last year have resulted in a large log jam blocking the Sulphur River near FM 71 in Birthright, causing flooding where Hopkins, Hunt and Delta counties intersect. The multijurisdiction of the project involves county, state and federal officials.

Also on the agenda for court approval are previous meeting minutes; payment of bills, revenues, expenses, payroll and financial statements; any other grants or donations presented; disposal of assets requests; and any resolutions or proclamations presented.

The commissioners court session will convene at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the first floor courtroom of the Hopkins County Courthouse.
