The city of Sulphur Springs is beginning to accept bids for the summer street paving program this week and will announce contractors for the program at the upcoming February city council meeting, according to a statement from city hall.

The streets, in alphabetical order, are as follows: Barbara, Cedar Springs, CMH, Debord, Graham, Harred, Lake Shore, Linda, Longino, Lou, Jonas, Middle, Mockingbird, Myndi, Nicholson, Oak Grove, Park Circle, Pampa, Plano, Rosemont and Seventh.

“This list was produced based on last year’s estimates for pricing,” Community Development Director Tory Niewiadomski said. “If bids come in higher due to factors such as oil prices going up, the list could be reduced or if the bids come in lower than expected, we may be able to add some additional streets.”

The funding for SIP comes from the $5 street maintenance fee passed by the city council in 2018. Overall, street projects will account for approximately 28,753 feet of improvement, or just under 5.5 total miles, Niewiadomski said.

According to the report, the oldest street, CMH, has not seen a repair since 1993. The newest street, Middle, was last serviced in 2006. All streets targeted by the SIP were repaired at least 10 years ago, and six of them were last repaired 20 years or more ago.
