Traffic stop leads to charges for Dallas woman

Jennifer Doolan Petty, 48, of Dallas was arrested during a traffic stop at 5:25 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 30 at mile marker 114 by DPS Trooper Aaron Hanna. Cumby PD Officer Zack Steward reportedly stopped Petty who was driving a white Jeep Cherokee. Steward called Hanna to come to the scene to assist with a possibly intoxicated driver. During contact, Petty reportedly advised Hanna she had been driving from Dallas but also allegedly stated she was en route back to Dallas. She then reportedly stated she was going to Wichita Falls and stated her current location was between Dallas and Wichita Falls.

Hanna alleged Petty displayed signs of intoxication by way of alcoholic beverage and possibly drugs or medication when he spoke with her at roadside and during field sobriety testing. She was taken into custody and transported to the Hopkins County jail where she reportedly refused to provide a voluntary specimen.

A blood search warrant was issued and served to Petty at Christus Trinity Mother Frances Hospital lab. While at the lab, Petty reportedly resisted the search and had to be restrained. She allegedly assaulted Trooper Hanna by kicking him in the left leg while she was resisting the search. She was transported back to the jail after the blood specimen was taken and released to jail staff.

Petty was charged with one count each of driving while intoxicated – first offense, assault on a public servant and resisting arrest, search or transport. Bond was set at $1,000 on the DWI charge, $2,000 on the resisting arrest charge and $20,000 on the assault charge. Petty remained in jail as of press time, jail and arrest reports read.
