Gov. Greg Abbott announced this week he has waived the STAAR exam citing public health concerns and school closures across the state.

Is the cancellation of STAAR exam requirements better or worse for our students?

• Better. The students don’t have to worry about how they perform on the tests.

• Worse. We need to know how students are performing at schools.

• Both. It’s great that the kids won’t have to take it this year, but it’s better to know where the kids need help.

• Neither. The STAAR exam should be done away with altogether.
