With playoff berth already clinched, the Sulphur Springs volleyball team traveled to Longview to end their 2021 regular season on a high note, but the match almost slipped by them as they won in five sets.

Longview, after being shut out by the Lady Cats in their last matchup, won the first set 25-21. Not to be deterred, Sulphur Springs struck back and took the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-18. However, Longview won’t go out with a fight as they won the next set 25-20. Sulphur Springs won the final set decisively, 15-7.

Addisyn Wall and Brooklyn Burnside lead the offense with 17 and 16 kills respectively. Peyton Hammack had three aces, and Burnside had two of her own. Hammack also had 32 of the team’s 41 assists.

Defense was spread almost even across the team with Mali Maeker leading with 16 digs. Parris Pickett and Hammack were tied at 13 digs a piece, and Laney Hurst had 12 as well. Burnside and Myssiah Dugan had two blocks each.

Now in the playoffs, Sulphur Springs will face Lufkin at Tyler High School (the old John Tyler High) Monday at 6:30 p.m.
