A funeral service for Spencer Dean Hinkle, age 88, of Sulphur Springs, Texas, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2024, at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow the service at Ridgeway Cemetery. Mike Stewart, Jeff Coleman, Elliott Pope, Chris Pope, Randy Jones, Billy Baldridge and Darrell Meeks will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Bledsoe and Wayne Bledsoe. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024, at West Oaks Funeral Home.

Spencer was born on June 24, 1935, to James Richard “JR” and Mittie Hinkle in Sulphur Bluff, Texas. He married the love of his life, Venita Gibby, on Oct. 16, 1959, in Beckham community; she preceded him in death. Spencer was a farmer and rancher and worked for Jones Livestock Co. for 21 years and Greenville Livestock Co., for a total of 41 years in the livestock industry. He served in the United States Army from 1958 to 1960, and spent 15 months in Korea; he also served in the National Guard for three years. He loved hunting hogs and deer. Spencer was an elder of Oakland Church as well as a song leader and mowed and took care of Oakland Cemetery for 30 years. He adored spending time with his family and loved his daughters and those grandchildren.

He is survived by his daughters, Tamara Stewart, her husband, Mike, and Darla Baldridge and her fiance, Jeff Coleman; brother, Jerry Hinkle; grandson, Brandon Baldridge; granddaughter, Lori Pope and her husband, Chris; and great-grandchildren, Cheyenne Pope, Kason Pope and Elliott Pope.

Spencer was preceded in death by his loving wife, Venita Joye (Gibby) Hinkle; father, J.R. Hinkle; mother, Mittie (Clifton) Hinkle; daughter, Marsha Womack; and sister, Cynthia Hinkle.
