The officers noticed that a woman said to have been involved had redness and swelling on her face, neck and forehead, and what appeared to be red fingerprints on her throat.

A man was alleged to have held the woman on the ground, while striking her in the face multiple times with a closed fist. The woman’s breathing was impeded when the man squeezed her throat tightly with his hands, causing her to lose consciousness, police were told. The man, identified in reports as Christopher Ray Bearden, also allegedly threatened to kill the woman during the assault. An emergency protective order was requested, police alleged in arrest reports. Bearden, 44, was taken into custody at 3:55 a.m. at his place of work on College Street on a third-degree felony family violence assault impeding breathing or circulation, according to arrest reports.

Cpl. Zack Steward arrested two men during a traffic stop at 3:12 p.m. Thursday, April 25. He was on routine patrol in the area of Church and Houston Streets Thursday afternoon when a white Honda with an expired registration passed him. As the vehicle turned into the parking lot of a Church Street apartment complex, Cpl. Steward observed a passenger, identified as Lynox Michael Newell, 22, of Sulphur Springs toss an object out of the vehicle’s window. He made contact with the driver, Seth William Albright, 21, of Winnsboro, and noted there was an odor of marijuana emitting from inside the vehicle. All three men were asked to exit the vehicle, and Steward conducted a pat down search before conducting a probable cause search of the vehicle. He located a baggie of marijuana in Albright’s pocket. Cpl. Steward also recovered the object that was tossed from the car window, which turned out to be a chocolate bar containing psilocybin mushrooms. Albright claimed it was his. He was charged with possession of 4 to 400 grams of a Penalty Group 2 controlled substance. Albright also had a Sulphur Springs Police Department warrant for an expired driver’s license. Newell was charged with attempting to tamper with evidence, a state jail felony.
