HCGS President John Sellers addressed members of the local non-profit Hopkins County Genealogical Society at the monthly business meeting held on March 21, 2024.

The agenda included a revision of bylaws. With a quorum present, the revision was voted on and approved. The revised bylaws now allow voting by a quorum present via virtual or Zoom meetings, as well as in person, when issues requiring voting arise.

Following the business meeting, speaker Kenny Sivard gave a presentation entitled 'Doaksville, Choctaw Nation, and its relationship with Texas.' Doaksville, a former settlement in Indian Territory, is now an archaeological preservation site in present-day Choctaw, Oklahoma. Mr. Sivard, a dedicated historian, is particularly knowledgeable about the shared histories of Southeastern Oklahoma and Northeastern Texas.

The April meeting of the HCGS will be held Thursday, April 18, at 7 p.m. at the research library, 611 N. Davis St., in Sulphur Springs, TX. Members and guests are welcome. The HCGS also announces that the research library will be closed on Friday, March 29, in observance of Good Friday, and will also be closed on Monday, April 8, 2024, in observance of the Total Eclipse.
