Multiagency search for suspect unsuccessful

At 10:55 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, a white passenger sedan passed a Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office patrol unit at approximately 97 miles per hour heading northbound toward Sulphur Springs on State Highway 154. Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over. The pursuit reached the Sulphur Springs city limits with the fleeing vehicle maintaining a speed of 95 miles per hour as it passed Wildcat Way on South Broadway Street and onto Gilmer Street. Sulphur Springs Police Department then took over and continued the pursuit.

The driver then turned east onto Kyle Street, which turns into Bellview Street at Brinker Street. The subject reportedly hit a fence, wrecking the vehicle and bailing out on foot on South League Street between Bellview and Tate Streets. Residents in the area reported seeing someone running away from the vehicle.

Law enforcement set up a perimeter in the area of Craig and Booker Streets in an attempt to locate the subject. A K-9 unit was called to the scene at 11:06 p.m., and a DPS helicopter was dispatched to assist with the search at Coleman Park at 11:50 p.m.

As of 2:12 a.m. Wednesday, the suspect had not been located. The search was discontinued at 2:53 a.m.

SSPD is still pursuing the case, but no further details are available at this time, according to reports.
