Programs support students, families across districts
By strengthening the pillars of community assistance, the Hopkins County United Way and its donors also indirectly benefit the school when families use the programs the organization supports, Sulphur Springs ISD Superintendent Michael Lamb said at the HCUW’s donor luncheon Wednesday at the Sulphur Springs Country Club.
When Lamb first started 10 years ago, he thought the HCUW was unlike any other United Way campaign in any community he’d lived in. However, the organizer that year “ruffled” Lamb’s feathers at first as “just another fundraiser.” As the years went on, however, his outlook changed.
“We as a school have a relationship with CANHelp, we have a relationship with 4-H,” Lamb said. “I remember the first I ever opened that [list of charities HCUW supports] and saw where the money goes. We couldn’t be a school without it.”
