Provides assistance for people in Mexico
To assist with education, housing and more in Mexico, Area residents Sue and Jerry Machetta will be hosting a fundraising dinner for the Mabel Foundation in early November.
The Machettas focus on offering trade education in sewing and providing scholarships to middle school, high school and university students. At times, some students are given a new computer to help with studies, according to the couple, and more sewing supples are donated to the sewing classes.
“These young women and mothers are doing an amazing job in learning and supporting each other as well as in opening businesses, making things to give to other less fortunate and thriving with their newfound skills and belief that they can makes a difference,” the couple wrote.
An event held last year around the same raised enough for an entire year of trade school, and the couple hopes that if there is enough support this year, a second trade school for wood carving and furniture making can be opened. The tools are donated, and funds would cover the instructor’s salary.
“God is working hard, and it is so good to see that we can be a small part of that,” the Machettas said. “We really hope to see you there.”
The dinner will be held Nov. 5 starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Lake Fork Baptist Church. The Machettas can be contacted at 605-431-9654.
