Wildcats to miss 2nd straight week

After missing their homecoming game against Hallsville last week, the Sulphur Springs Wildcats will be missing their district opener this week against Crandall. Updates on when that game will be rescheduled were unavailable as of press time Tuesday.

The Wildcats are still looking for their first win of the season after dropping their first two games to Frisco Wakeland and Lucas Lovejoy. Sulphur Springs was set to open district play against Crandall, which is currently 2-1 with wins over Jacksonville and Joshua.

The next scheduled game for Sulphur Springs is Friday, Oct. 23 against undefeated Ennis. Ennis entered the season ranked No. 1 in the state and picked to win the state championship by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine.

After that, Sulphur Springs still has games at Royse City, Greenville and Forney and games at home against Corsicana and North Forney.

So far this season, the Wildcats have been led by senior quarterback Kaden Wallace. Wallace has thrown for 245 yards and a touchdown this season and has completed 28 of his 49 attempts. Wallace’s favorite receiver so far as been sophomore CJ Williams. Williams has 10 catches for over 100 yards through just two games.

The rushing game has been led by senior Caden Davis, who has 175 yards on 44 carries, giving him an average of 4 yards per carry. Junior JJ Hall is also off to an impressive start, tallying 73 yards on 19 touches.

Defensively, senior linebacker Ryan Carrillo has set the pace, racking up 33 tackles in the first two games. Other defensive leaders are D’Andre Peoples and Nick Cantillo, who each have two tackles for losses so far.
