7-2 record in district play

The Sulphur Springs Wildcats wait out the UIL suspension with just one game remaining on their schedule. The Wildcats overall season record to this point is 13-6-5 and 7-2 in district play.

Sulphur Springs opened their season with a very tough schedule, going 6-4-5 in the preseason. Their preseason wins came against Caprock, 3-1; Jacksonville, 1-0; Hallsville, 2-0; Seagoville, 2-1; Mesquite Poteet, 3-0; and Community, 3-1.

The Wildcats opened district play Feb. 11 with a 2-1 on the road against Greenville. Omar Hernandez and Alejandro Diosdado each scored on unassisted goals to lead them to the win.

Sulphur Springs kept the momentum going Feb. 14 with an overtime win on the road against Lindale. Diosdado and Hernandez were the two scorers again, both coming on assists from Kevin Yanez.

Sulphur Springs first district loss came Feb. 18 at home against Mount Pleasant. The Wildcats got right back in the win column in their next game, defeating Texas High 2-1 at home.

On Feb. 25, Sulphur Springs went to Rosye City and won 1-0 in overtime. Hernandez scored the only goal in the game.

Following three days later, the Wildcats picked up their fifth district win, defeating Greenville at home, 2-1. Kevin Yanez scored a goal on an assist from Christian Palomino and freshman Uriel Santacruz scored his first goal on varsity.

The Wildcats were able to extend their winning streak to four games March 2 when they beat Lindale 3-0. Jose Salazar and Yanez each scored unassisted goals. Diosdado scored the final goal of the game on an assist from Santacruz.

Sulphur Springs has played just two games since their four-game winning streak, losing to Mount Pleasant, 6-0, and defeating Texas High, 3-2. Yanez scored a pair of goals in the win over Texas High and assisted on a goal from Isaac Gutierrez.

Yanez has led the team in scoring during district play, racking up four goals. Hernandez and Diosdado each have three.
