Wildcats to face Jacksonville in opening round of playoffs

With the regular season over, the Sulphur Springs Wildcats have their opponent for the opening round of the playoffs. The Wildcats will travel to Hallsville, to face Jacksonville with the time and date still to be determined.

Sulphur Springs went 17-9 this season, going 9-3 in district play to earn the second seed in their distinct. The Wildcats opened their district season going 3-2, losing back-to-back games, both on buzzer beaters to Longivew and Mount Pleasant. After that Sulphur Springs bounced back and won six of their final seven games, losing just once to Mount Pleasant again, 55-34.

The Wildcats lost back-to-back games just twice this season, also losing a pair of games early in the season to McKinney Boyd and Sherman. Sulphur Springs bounced back with four consecutive wins, beating Dallas Lincoln, 60-47; Rockwall, 47-44; Forney, 66-58; and Paris, 69-60.

Sulphur Springs will face Jacksonville who finished behind Huntsville and Nacogdoches in their own district. Their one common opponent this season is Hallsville, who Jacksonville beat 62-49. Sulphur Springs beat Hallsville each time they played them, beating them 51-35 and 60-46 the two times they played them.

The Wildcats made it to the Regional Quarterfinals round of the playoffs last year. Sulphur Springs faced Lufkin in the opening round, beating them 78-55. In the Area round they faced Red Oak who they beat by a final score of 61-38.

After a pair of playoff wins the Wildcats ran in to Lancaster who was ranked No.1 in the state. After a game they stayed close all the way though, the Wildcats fell by a final score of 44-38.
