LONGVIEW- The Sulphur Springs Wildcats traveled to Longview Friday, looking to continue their hot streak. The Wildcats entered the day on a four-game winning streak, after beating Texas High, Marshall, Pine Tree and Hallsville.

After a few slow starts their last few games, the Wildcats wasted no time putting points on the board in Friday night’s game. Sulphur Springs had one of their bigger first quarters of the year, posting 17 points in the opening frame. The Wildcats defense also came to play, holding Longview to just six points in the quarter.

Sulphur Springs doubled down in the second quarter, having an even better quarter offensively, posting 18 points in the frame this time. The Wildcats once again held Longview to just six points, and were able to take a 35-12 lead at the half.

Longview was finally able to find some offense in the second half, more than doubling their point total from the first half in the third quarter. Sulphur Springs had their lowest scoring quarter of the game in the third quarter with just 10 points, and Longview was able to cut into the deficit a bit.

Longview kept their offensive success going into the fourth quarter, having their highest scoring frame of the night with 18 points. Sulphur Springs was able to score 17 points of their own, however, and cruised to an easy 62-44 win.

Kordrick Turner was the leading man for Sulphur Springs. The sophomore led the way with a game-high 18 points. Senior Boo Wilkerson and junior Justin Haire each finished in double-digits as well, posting 12 points and 10 points respectively.

Parker Whisenhunt was able to provide eight points, while Caleb Alexander had five points, Lamodrick Johnson had four points, Malique Cole had three points and Ben Hatcher had two points.

The Wildcats shot 55% from the field and 36% from behind the 3-point line in the 18-point win. On top of a great shooting night, Sulphur Springs was also able to hold Longview to just 32% shooting and 14% from 3-point land.

The win improves the Wildcats' record to 16-8 on the season and 8-2 in district play. The only team they trail is No. 10 Mount Pleasant who is undefeated with a record of 18-0. Sulphur Springs returns home Friday for their regular season finale against Texas High, starting at 7:30 p.m.
