WINNSBORO — The Cumby Trojans’ season came to a disappointing end Friday following a 10-0 loss to the Ore City Rebels in their Bi-District playoff game at Winnsboro High School. The game’s outcome would be decided early on, as the Trojans were outplayed from the start and couldn’t establish any rhythm.

The Rebels set the tone right away, scoring four runs in the first inning and establishing a 4-0 lead. Ore City added another run in the second inning, extending their lead to 5-0.

After a scoreless third inning, the Rebels added five runs in the fourth inning, increasing their lead to 10-0.

After the Trojans were held scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, the game ended, as the Rebels shut out the Trojans 10-0.

As a team, the Trojans batted just 2 for 16 (.125) from the plate. Jace Evans and Chayton Vaughan both recorded one hit each.

Jaxon Hudson suffered the loss on the mound. Across three innings, he surrendered five runs (one earned), four hits, and one walk, managing two strikeouts. Evans pitched one inning in relief, allowing five runs, two hits, and one walk.

With the loss, the Trojans’ season has come to an end. They end the season with an overall record of 8-12, finishing as Bi-District finalists.

This would also go down as the last high school baseball game for two senior Trojans: Matt Liston and Lane McCraw.

The Trojans will look to improve in the off-season and make a deeper playoff run next year.
