Sulphur Springs and Hopkins County law enforcement activity from 5:30 a.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Tuesday included:

Friday, March 17

„ A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper stopped Cason Wayne Blevins around 5:45 p.m. March 17 on State Highway 19 near County Road 1170. He reported smelling a fresh marijuana odor upon contact with the 20-yearold Sulphur Springs man. Blevins handed the highway patrol three burnt marijuana cigarettes and a glass jar containing marijuana. He was taken into custody for possession of marijuana. His vehicle was released to his mother and he was transported to jail During a book-in search, Jailor Adam Jordan found a clear baggy containing a brown waxy substance concealed between the cheeks of Blevins’ buttocks. He admitted the substance was THC. Consequently, Blevins was charged on one third-degree felony possession of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance charge, a third-degree felony prohibited substance in a correctional facility charge and a Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge.

„ Tracy Odell Marshall was arrested on East industrial Drive on a warrant for violation of probation on a possession of less than 1 gram of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance charge. Deputies found him at his place of employment and took him into custody on the charge. The offense was alleged to have occurred March 16.

„ Deputies stopped David Bryan Kull at 7:34 p.m. on Bellview Street at Locust Street for a traffic violation. When asked for permission to search the vehicle, he refused. Deputy Drew Fisher was called to bring his partner, K-9 Axe, to the scene. The police dog alerted on the vehicle. A cigarette container with a baggy of suspected methamphetamine and a glass pipe were found in the console during a probable cause search of the vehicle.The 36-year-old Sulphur Springs man was taken into custody. The substance field-tested positive for meth and weighed 2.6 grams, deputies alleged in arrest reports.

„ Shaina Cheyanne Fields was taken into custody at 10:41 p.m. on Fuller Street on a warrant for violation of parole, which the 49-year-old Sulphur Spings resident was on for a possession of 1 gram or more but less than 4 grams of a Penalty Group 1 controlled substance, Sulphur Springs Police officers alleged in arrest reports.

„ Mary Kathryn Fletcher of Quinlan was arrested at 3:33 p.m. on College Street on a Hunt County violation of probation warrant. The 36-year-old was stopped on College Street for a traffic violation and a records check showed the warrant. Bond was recommended to be set at $150,000.

„ Theft of more than $250 worth of household items was reported at Walmart.

Saturday, March 18

„ Deputies stopped at 3:06 a.m. to check on an Acura ILX stopped in the westbound lane of the south service road at FM 3389, facing east. The 26-year-old Emory man inside appeared to officers to be asleep with the vehicle in drive. When deputies attempted to wake the man several times before shaking him. He was ordered to put the car in park and get out. He didn’t, so the deputy broke the driver’s side window and tried to physically remove him. A Taser was deployed. He then put the vehicle in park and got out and stretched out on the ground, according to arrest reports. Adan Isaias Perez was arrested for obstructing a highway or passageway.

„ Theft of over $100 worth of merchandise was reported at Walmart.

Sunday, March 19

„ A trooper stopped Ponce Demario Cole around 2:30 p.m. on Interstate 30 east at mile marker 134 for speeding and no seat belt. A records check showed a protective order issued prohibiting Cole from having the front seat passenger in the vehicle with him. After confirming with Little Rock Police Department that the protective order was active, the trooper arrested the 36-year-old Pine Bluff, Arkansas man on a Class A misdemeanor violation of a protective order charge as well as a misdemeanor no driver’s license charge, according to arrest reports.

„ Deputies spotted Justin Allen Steele, a person they sought in connection with an active theft investigation, and stopped him at 1:39 p.m. on FM 71 west at FM 2653 north for not having a valid driver’s license. He was taken into custody for driving while license invalid as well as on a theft of aluminum, bronze, copper or bronze material.

„ Deputies attempted to run a records check on a vehicle that passed him on State Highway 11 west. The car then pulled onto the shoulder. As it did, he noticed it had a defective brake light and contacted the driver. When contacted, Dalton Ray Morehead Jr. became agitated and seemed to the deputy as if he were in a hurry for the traffic investigation to end. He arrested the man for the defective high center mounted stop light. He refused to let the deputy search the vehicle. Canine Axe was deployed. The police dog gave a positive alert on the vehicle. Nothing was noted to have been found during a probable cause search of the vehicle. The 56-year-old Sulphur Springs man was jailed on the traffic violation.

„ Sulphur Springs Police responded at 6:52 a.m. to a disturbance on Duckworth Street. Upon arrival, the officers contacted Kiesa Dawn Birstein, who dispatchers advised was wanted for possession of drug paraphernalia and a Dallas County theft of property. Bond for the 34-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was recommended to be set on the Class B theft charge was set at $2,500, and $513.50 was owed on the paraphernalia charge.

„ Theft of less than $100 worth of household goods was reported to have occurred Feb. 23.

„ False alarm or report was reported on Davis Street on March 8.

Monday, March 20

„ Sulphur Springs Police officers responded to a call expressing concern for the welfare of a child. The mother of the child, Morgan Elane Beadles, was located at the address. The 30-year-old Sulphur Springs woman was found to be wanted and taken into custody at 11:40 a.m. at her Nicholson Street residence. Her child was released to her friend, who was at the residence. The woman was booked into the county jail on McClennan County warrants for violation of probation on harassment of a public servant and driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 or greater, according to arrest reports.

Tuesday, March 21

„ Deputies responded at 1:30 a.m. on FM 1537 to a vehicle crash. Upon arrival, officers reported a male standing outside of a silver truck that had been involved in a crash. The man was alleged to be “visibly intoxicated,” and had slurred speech and was unable to stand up straight without leaning on something, according to arrest reports. He claimed to be the passenger; no driver was located and since the driver did not see the man behind the wheel, 25-yearold Clayton Ryan Hanson of Sulphur Springs was arrested for public intoxication after refusing medical treatment by EMS personnel on scene.
