Wildcats remain in top 10

Body

For most of the year, three local teams have been featured in the weekly updates in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches rankings. This week is no different with Sulphur Springs and both the Saltillo boys and girls teams remaining in the top 25.

After a number of weeks coming in at the No. 9 spot, Sulphur Springs managed to climb to No. 8 last week. After a 45-31 loss to Mount Pleasant, who is currently ranked No. 24, Sulphur Springs has dropped two spots to No. 10. This snapped a five-game winning streak for the Wildcats and evened the season series with Mount Pleasant, after beating them, 72-54, Jan. 21.

Entering the week with a 23-8 record, Sulphur Springs has already added another big win to their resume this week, beating Texas High, 57-48, Tuesday night.

The Saltillo Lions, who had climbed one spot in each of the last two weeks, remain at No. 17 this week. Saltillo, who entered the week with a 27-4 record, is one win away from finishing district play undefeated.

Coverage of their final game against Union Hill will be published in upcoming editions of the News-Telegram. They won the first matchup, 66-39.

The Saltillo Lady Lions also remain where they were last week, just outside the top 10 at No. 11. After a pair of weeks at No. 13 the Lady Lions jumped to No. 11 last week.

The Lady Lions finished district play as the undefeated district champions. This earned them a bye in the Bi-District round of the playoffs. They will take on the winner of Throckmorton and Henrietta in the Area round.

Information on when and where that game will be played will be published in upcoming editions of the News-Telegram.
