The saying is true: “There’s no place like home.”

Four Sulphur Springs junior golfers took home event titles Thursday at the latest stop of the East Texas Junior Golf Tour, held at the Sulphur Springs Country Club.

In the 11 and under division, Tatum Tran shot a 38 to pick up the win over second place Kylee Strickland of Mount Pleasant and third place Abbot Harbour of Cookville.

Tran’s 38 ties for the 12th best score in the division’s history.

McKenna Meskimen took home the title in the junior high girls division, shooting a 95 for the event. Her score ranks as the fifth best score in the division’s history.

In the high school girls division, Mariam Tran shot a 69 to win the event, notching the win over Mount Pleasant’s Mason Garrett and Grelyn Goolsby.

Tran’s 69 ties her for the fifth best round in division history. Garrett, who represented Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill at the UIL State Golf Tournament, has the other 19 best scores in division history.

Grant Mohesky finished tied for first with Mount Pleasant’s Jonathan Chitsey with a score of 81 to share the high school boys division title. Easton Lewis finished fourth with a 95.

Golfers are hoping to secure a spot in the Junior Tour Championship, a 36-hole invitation competition to determine the tour champions for 2019.

The event will be held July 18-19 and the top 15 golfers in each division will be invited automatically.

Area golfers currently in line to qualify automatically are Isaac Stanley and Tatum Tran in the 11 and under division; Grant Mohesky in the high school boys division and Mariam Tran in the high school girls division.

The ETJGT resumes July 15 at Daingerfield Country Club, the final event before the championship.
