Lions teams win against Sulphur Bluff

SALTILLO —The Saltillo Lions Junior High teams hosted Sulphur Bluff on Tuesday night.

The Lions A Team got off to an incredible start, scoring 31 points in the first quarter. They held Sulphur Bluff to just 8 points in the frame.

In the second quarter, they kept the offense going, tacking on another 14 points. They allowed only 4 points and took a 45-12 lead into the half.

In the second half, their offense slowed down, scoring just a combined 9 points in the final two quarters. They had done more than enough in the first half, however, and they walked away with a 54-28 win.

David Whitworth led the team with 21 points. Other Lions who scored were Chase Eastman with 8 points, Christian Trejo, 7, Caden McGill, 7, Colton McGill, 5, Ethan Reese, 2, and Rowdy Speir, 2.

The Lions B Team got a win as well, despite starting off slowly and trailing 8-6 at halftime.

Saltillo found its offense in the second half, scoring 8 points in the third quarter and 7 in the fourth. They won the game 21-15.

Jordan Metcalf was the leading scorer, finishing with 7 points. Other scorers were Hunter Burkett, 6, Trey Tully, 2, Jonas Beadle, 2, Brandon Metcalf, 2, and Adrian Don Juan, 2.

The Saltillo A Team remains undefeated with this win, improving to 10-0. The B Team is now 5-3.
