RICHARDSON– The Texas A&M University-Commerce e soccer team has been predicted to finish fifth in the annual Lone Star Conference women’s soccer preseason poll. The poll as well as the preseason superlatives were announced by the conference office on Wednesday.

The Lions are coming off of a 9-8-0 season, in which the Lions only played three games on their home field due to heavy rain throughout the season. Despite this, the Lions rallied to qualify for the LSC Tournament for the sixth consecutive season, finishing in fourth place in the conference standings. The 2019 squad is a mix of returners and new players, as the Lions return 11 student-athletes from a season ago, while also adding 14 new student-athletes.

West Texas A&M was predicted to finish in first place in the LSC, receiving 18 first place votes. Dallas Baptist finished in second place with eight first place votes.

A&M-Commerce had the third-most first place votes, receiving three. The preseason poll included votes from the conference head coaches and sports information directors, as well as a member of the media from each school. With LSC

expansion pushing the

number of women’s soccer teams to 14, teams will now play each other once per regular season. The top seven teams will qualify for the LSC Tournament, with the winner earning the conference’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Lions begin the 2019 season on the road against Westminster on Sept. 5. Their first home match will played on Sept. 12 against Ouachita Baptist.
