MILLER GROVE — The Saltillo Lions Junior High A and B teams took on Miller Grove Thursday and walked away with a pair of wins.
The A team trailed for most of the first half losing 15-12 at the end of the first quarter and 23-19 entering halftime.
The third quarter is when Saltillo really hit their stride, outscoring Miller Grove 20-4 in the quarter and taking a 39-27 lead.
The fourth quarter saw some of the same as Saltillo was able to score 14 more points to top off their 53-35 win.
David Whitworth led the team with 16 points, behind him were Caden McGill, Chase Eastman and Tristan Rains each with 9 points, Christian Trejo had 6, Ethan Reese 3 and Kaden McGil 1.
The B team pulled off a comeback win as well, trailing 7-4 at the end of the first quarter and 11-7 at the half. The Lions narrowed the deficit to 16-15 entering the fourth quarter and outscored Miller Grove 12-7 to take the 27-23 win.
Rowdy Speir was the leading scorer in this game, finishing with 8 points. Other Scorers for Saltillo were Heston Gilbreth 7, Jordan Metcalf 5, Adrian Don Juan 5 and Brandon Metcalf 2.
Both teams will play again Thursday Jan. 16 in Yantis with the B team starting at 4:30 p.m. and the A team to follow.
