Lady Wildcats earn back-to-back wins vs. Community at home, Farmersville on road

SS extends winning streak to seven

The No. 25 Sulphur Springs Lady Wildcat continued their strong start to the season last week with a pair of dominant wins. Both games would see the Lady Wildcats outplay their opponents from the start and never look back, leading to a pair of victories.

For their first game, Nov. 20, the Lady Wildcats welcomed the Community Lady Braves to Wildcat Gym. The Lady Wildcats would come up with a 5429 victory in that game.

The first quarter would see the Lady Wildcats jump out to a quick 6-0 lead after Trinity Jefferson, Codee Roland, and Kaylee Carter all made two pointers. After a two-pointer by the Lady Braves, the Lady Wildcats added seven straight points on a free throw by Aaliyah Cheatum, a pair of free throws by Tatum Thompson, and a pair of two-pointers by Cami Schaack, as they increased their lead to 13-2.

After the Lady Braves scored again on a three-pointer, the Lady Wildcats scored again on a pair of free throws by Kyra Carter and a three-pointer from Thompson, extending their lead to 18-5. The Lady Braves would then close out the first quarter with a pair of free throws, bringing the score to 18-7 as the quarter expired.

The second quarter started with the Lady Braves scoring on a two-pointer. From there, the Lady Wildcats scored on two-pointers from Rainey Johnson and Jefferson, increasing their lead to 22-9.

After a free throw from the Lady Braves, Johnson scored again on a two-pointer. This would be followed by a pair of two-pointers from the Lady Braves, bringing the score to 24-14.

From that point, the Wildcats scored eight straight points on a pair of two-pointers by Schaack, a free throw by Thompson, and a three-pointer by Kyra Carter, as they increased their lead to 32-14.

The Lady Braves would then close out the second quarter with a three-pointer, bringing the score to 3217 going into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the Lady Wildcats opened the third quarter with two-pointers from Schaack and Jefferson, increasing their lead to 3617. Soon after, they would add eight more points on a three-pointer by Kyra Carter, a two-pointer by Schaack, and a three-pointer by Kaylee Carter, as they extended their lead to 4417.

After the Lady Braves scored on a two-pointer, the Lady Wildcats closed out the third quarter with a three-pointer by Roland, as their lead now stood at 47-19.

The fourth quarter started with the Lady Braves scoring on a pair of two-pointers, bringing the score to 47-23. This was followed by a two-pointer by Johnson, making the score 49-23.

The Lady Braves would score again on a pair of three-pointers, bringing the score to 49-29. From there, the Lady Wildcats closed out the game with a two-pointer by Thompson and a three-pointer from Lilly Taylor, capping off a 54-29 victory.

Schaack would finish as the Lady Wildcats’ leading scorer with 12 points. Not far behind her was Kyra Carter and Thompson with eight points each. Rounding out the scoring was Jefferson and Johnson with six points each, Kaylee Carter and Roland with five points each, Taylor with three points, and Cheatum with one point.

In their second game, Nov. 21, the Lady Wildcats traveled to Farmersville to take on the Farmersville Lady Farmers. That game would see the Lady Wildcats roll to a 57-33 win.

The first quarter would set the tone early on, as the Lady Wildcats played well from the beginning, while the Lady Farmers struggled. The Lady Wildcats held a commanding 23-5 lead as the first quarter ended.

The second quarter was more of the same, as the Lady Wildcats continued their outstanding gameplay, while the Lady Farmers couldn’t find their rhythm. The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Farmers 17-10 in the second quarter, increasing their lead to 4015 going into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the third quarter continued the same storyline, as Sulphur Springs still played well, while Farmersville struggled. The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Farmers 10-4 in the third quarter, building their lead up to 50-19.

The final quarter would see the Lady Farmers play better, but it was too little, too late. Despite being outscored 14-7 in the final quarter, the Lady Wildcats came up with a 57-33 win.

Kaylee Carter finished as the Lady Wildcats’ top scorer with 14 points. Schaack also scored in the double-digits with 10 points. Rounding out the scoring was Jefferson with eight, Roland with seven, Cheatum with six, Kyra Carter with five, Johnson with four, and Taylor with three.

With these wins, the Lady Wildcats are now 9-2 on the season. They resumed action Tuesday, welcoming the Commerce Lady Tigers to Wildcat Gym for another non-district battle.
