The Cumby Lady Trojans hosted Wolfe City Monday for an early season matchup.

Neely Hammond got things started with a 2-run homerun in the bottom of the first to give the Lady Trojans a quick 2-0 lead.

Carly Talley added to the lead in the fourth inning with a solo bomb. She would knock in another run in the Lady Trojans 4-run sixth inning.

Hammond didn’t just perform well at the plate, as she also got the win for Cumby. Hammond threw seven innings, allowing just two hits and one run. She struck out 18 batters.

Cumby racked up 11 hits in the game with Erin Morgan, Bre Morgan, Ashlyn Hudson and Talley all having multi-hit games. The Lady Trojans won the game, 9-1.

Cumby will play again Saturday in the Detroit tournament. Their first game will be at 10:30 a.m. against Savoy. After that, they will take on Sulphur Springs JV at 3 p.m. and Detroit at 4:15.
